If you’re moving into a new house and setting up your own home for the first time, it can be an exciting adventure. But there are also plenty of things to think about, from arranging furniture to planning out storage or decoration.
The key to a successful move is planning, preparation and organization. A few simple steps can make all the difference between success and failure when moving into a new house.
1.- GET SET UP EARLY
Don’t wait until the last minute to do anything. Unless you need to pack everything quickly and leave, you probably have between 30 and 60 days to organise your move and make sure everything goes according to plan. Make a countdown list and include all the tasks you have to complete each week.
2.- PACK YOUR BOXES CAREFULLY SO THEY DON’T COLLAPSE AND DAMAGE DELICATE ITEMS
Pack your boxes carefully and choose strong boxes that can hold the weight of their contents, so they don’t collapse and damage fragile items. This will also provide greater protection during the shipping process.
3.- MARK EVERYTHING CLEARLY WITH AN EASY-TO-READ LABEL OR MARKER TO AVOID CONFUSION LATER ON
A good labeling system will help you easily find what you’re looking for again and again. Mark everything clearly with an easy-to-read label or marker to avoid confusion later on, whether you’re organizing your own belongings or those of someone else.
4.-TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE CHANCE TO PURGE
Moving is a fantastic opportunity to arrange your possessions and get rid of things you don’t need anymore. If the season allows, have a yard sale. Alternately, take the time to discard used periodicals and catalogues, put furniture up for sale on websites like Craigslist.org, select and donate gently used clothing.
