How is the construction industry in Canada?

According to Canada Construction Association the sector employs over 1.4 million people in Canada. It  generates about $141 billion to the economy annually, accounting for 7.5 per cent of Canada’s gross domestic product (GDP).  This sector has a positive impact in the economic growth which generate employment, development, commerce, etc.

The main sectors in Canada’s construction market are commercial construction infrastructure construction, energy and utility construction, institutional construction, industrial construction, and residential construction.

Nowadays, the construction industry goes hand in hand with technology and innovation using 3D modeling, artificial intelligence.

During 2020 and 2021, all sectors were impacted due to pandemic. Canada Construction Association indicates that there were significant drops in employment in the winter and spring of 2020, particularly in Ontario and Quebec, where portions of the industry more affected than those of other provinces.

According to BuildForce Canada’s national report, Construction and Maintenance Looking Forward: An assessment of Construction Labour Markets from 2022–2027 shows an interesting figure about the share of total construction industry employment by province in 2021 where Ontario and Quebec had the highest level of percentage.
